Rupert is a throwback to modish times. He thinks nothing of riding to games on his vespa on searing summer days, whilst still wearing a Parker. His love of this era is such that he even gave himself a tattoo at the age of 15; carving the word vespa into his knee during a school lesson and then pouring Indian ink into it. Clearly Hepatitis B & C were not high on his list of concerns when he was at school. Quite how he managed to tattoo his knee without shrieking in agony is some achievement.
Rupert has recently shorn his wild, unkempt hair for a crew cut, in the hope that he will gain a few extra yards of pace in his delivery stride. It has not worked. Rupert still bowls a cunning slow medium pace. He does not swing the ball much but he has a good variety of cutters and changes of pace. He also has the uncanny knack of getting the ball to wobble mid flight. His unconventionality induces complacency in many batters and this ultimately proves to be to their doom. Rupert can be relied upon to throw down 9 economical overs and scalp a couple of top order batsman in the process, each week.
Rupert is a true number 11 when it comes to batting and fielding. His batting can bear no other description than unorthodox slogging/ rabbit. Generally he is a walking wicket but a couple of times a season he will contrive to slog 20 odd, against seemingly impossible odds. He is from the Phil Tufnell school of fielding…. nuff’ said.
