Dave Bass Bass Machine, Bassinator
Dave Bass is Harbledown Cricket Club's very own Trojan Horse. Softly spoken, of medium height and light build, sporting a beard and the old fashioned cream coloured 'whites' he gives a benign appearance to the opposition. However, as Troy's citizens would no doubt remark 'appearances can be deceptive' and it is precisely here where G.W Finn's most experienced Chartered Surveyor makes opposition batsmen pay.
Second XI skippers in recent years have all had the luxury of throwing the ball to Mr Bass who rarely fails to deliver some magic. The shuffling run up, the Bob Willis-esque 'rigid arm during delivery' and a dangerous late swinging fuller delivery are all feared Bass trademarks.
Upon his arrival at the club several years ago a couple of astute villagers (including The Blue Falcon) could sense his well disguised potential and actually believed him to be capable of speeds in excess of 90mph. Although it was to provide a false dawn the amiable and deceptive Mr Bass is a key member of the 2nd's attack and one of the few club members to reside in Rough Common. |
